MOTAT is New Zealand's largest and leading transport and technology museum. Within 40 acres, MOTAT will take you on an interactive journey through many of the technological achievements that have helped shape New Zealand.
MOTAT opened in 1964 and is an interactive museum with a focus on creating a fun, visually stimulating environment for its visitors.The Museum is built on a site that once pumped water drawn from Western Springs Lake to early Auckland homes and businesses. The Pumphouse, with its magnificent Beam Engine has had extensive conservation to ensure its significance in Auckland's history is preserved.
MOTAT has a number of magnificent exhibitions that recreate life as it was during Auckland's settlement days. You can take a stroll through the Victorian Village, take a ride on a horse drawn carriage or marvel at the magnificent engineering feat it took to build and operate the Pumphouse.

MOTAT's Tramway is Auckland's only operating tramway and only one of four in New Zealand. The collection of operating tramcars is representative of the North Island cities of Auckland, Wanganui and Wellington. Also complimented by examples from Dunedin and Melbourne, Australia covering 120 years of steam, cable and electrical tram traction.
Marvel at some of the finest aircraft ever built! One of the most impressive exhibits of aircraft in Australasia, the MOTAT Meola Road Site displays the aircraft which have taken New Zealanders over land, ocean and into battle.
